Youth and Alcohol
Welcome.
The end of the school year coincides with a high-powered party time.
It is also a time when young people need to learn the truth about alcohol and its effects.
Young school leavers, your parents can be important guides, but you can be your own best guides if you resist the pressure to drink too much and pay close attention to the effect that alcohol has on you.
Some young people pretend that alcohol is having no effect, and many others don’t care what effect it has.
The smart ones learn to recognise the effects quickly, and to admit them.
Denial of the effects of alcohol will lead you into years of difficulties and undesired consequences.
Have a good time, but respect yourselves and others.

Completed Cathedral
The restoration and construction work is now over.
St Mary’s Cathedral has been beautifully restored and significantly expanded to meet the needs of our ever-growing community.
I warmly invite you to come and see what we have achieved together and I thank you for your wonderful support.

New Year Message
New Year resolutions don’t last long.
Mine don’t, at least.
Before we abandon them, may I suggest that this year we look honestly at ourselves and resolve to change just one thing.
Maybe it’s our temper. Stand back and deal with the matter differently. Perhaps we need to be a bit more truthful, forgiving, and generous. Try it.
Remember, God is on your side and is there to help.
Children’s Christmas 2
Hi,
When I was a small boy, as young as you, I just loved looking at the Christmas scene, the animals, Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus. I still love it now.
Next time you come across this Bethlehem scene, stop and look, and wonder at the beauty and the love in that little stable.
It will remind you how much God loves all of us.
Children’s Christmas 1
Hi,
One of the Carols you often hear at Christmas is “The Little Drummer Boy”.
Unlike the Three Wise Men, three Kings, the drummer boy didn't have expensive gifts to give to the little baby Jesus.
So he played his drums for him.
This Christmas, when you see Jesus in the stable of Bethlehem in your Church or in a shop window, why not give him your love. He wants that most of all.

Christmas Message
Let’s pause for a moment in the middle of the Christmas rush to remember what Christmas is all about.
It is about the Prince of Peace, the child Jesus born in Bethlehem, who came to change the world.
It is about God’s love for the human family, for you and me. What dignity we now have since God’s Son became one of us!
It’s about love for one another.
I can’t give you a better message than that.
God Bless You all this Christmas.

Christmas Season
Welcome
Christmas is a time for families. A good time mostly. The family holds society together.
Think about it.
That small circle of children and grownups contributes love, education, healthcare, language, tradition, values, faith and joy. These are worth much more than the gold from Kalgoorlie or the pearls from Broome. They nurture, protect and raise children to take their place in the world as wholesome human beings, as God intended.
That is why we are all so sad at the break-up of families. So much is lost that is almost impossible to replace.
This Christmas let's make it a happy time for all our families, and reach out to others going through tough times.

Cathedral
Welcome
This is a very important week for me. It's the week of the re-opening of our St Mary's Cathedral.
St Mary’s, has been closed for three years for extensive repairs, conservation and completion. It is now finished and looks stunning in the bright Perth sun. I'm very proud of what we have achieved ... I love it.
The traditional spires of a Cathedral reach up to heaven and are reminders that in the middle of our busy city there is a quiet still spiritual heart, calling us to turn to God for the peace that only his love can give.
If you are passing by, please drop in. You are most welcome to enjoy the tranquillity of God’s House and pray a little.

December
Welcome
There's something about the beginning of December that gets us thinking about what has to be done before Christmas.
Those among us who are not Christian sense it as well.
Christmas in Australia stops the Nation, just like the Melbourne Cup, but even more so.
For those who are Christians, this is precisely the right time to prepare ourselves to celebrate Christmas in a fitting manner. Maybe you need to mend fences with someone, perhaps a member of your family. Or you need to forgive and forget – or look at yourself honestly, curb your anger, be a better person ...
the person, as someone once said, that your dog thinks you are.
This is part of our spiritual preparation for the birth of Christ at Bethlehem. If he means anything to you, as he does to me, the preparation has already begun.

Kingdoms
Welcome.
Conflict arises in the world because some people want to possess and control things… like territory, resources or other people?
Jesus offered us a different kingdom, the peace and harmony of the kingdom of God.
Now what do I mean by that?
We all desire to be happy but we have different ways of going about it.
If we seek happiness in possessions this can easily lead to greed, or violence or the domination of others.
The desire for goodness, harmony and fairness for all leads to happiness and peace and that is what the kingdom of God is all about.

LifeLink and Generosity
Welcome.
The strength of any community is its willingness to help those in need.
I am always inspired by the generosity of our community here in Perth.
This generosity of heart is a blessing to those who give and those who receive.
About this time each year, I launch my Christmas Appeal for LifeLink which supports about 35,000 families and individuals in need throughout this state.
LifeLink reaches out to the homeless, the unemployed and disadvantaged, families in crisis, abused woman and children and many more.
They need our help, and LifeLink does help.
I ask you to support LifeLink; anything you contribute will help people in need within this community, and you will have my lasting gratitude.

All Saints
Welcome.
November is a special month in the life of Christians.
It is a time when we especially remember the Saints in heaven, and those who have died whom we call the Holy Souls.
As well as remembering them in prayer, we remind ourselves that they shared the same life that we live, and they are still sharing it, though in a different way.
Human life is meant to be shared.
Community life – first a family and then a larger community – is the best way to enjoy and develop our humanity, through fellowship, love and forgiveness.
The true destiny of human life is to be with God.
This should be a great comfort to us as we pass through this life to eternity.

Racial Acceptance
Welcome
Australia is a great country; I’ve no doubt about that.
People born here or those who chose to come here, all agree that we have something good going on.
A beautiful land of contrasts, an abundant land of opportunity and advancement, good health care, good education and a safety net for those who fall on hard times.
We have a country where people are equal under the law, and where we all have a say in who governs us.
But we are not perfect yet. From time to time we hear racist remarks against one or other ethnic group.
There is no place for racism in Australia.
We are all equal, and with God our common Father, we are all brother and sisters.
Let’s keep it that way.

Catholic Archbishop of Perth.
