Second Miracle Attributed to Blessed Mary MacKillop's Intercession - Way Opens for her Canonisation

Promulgation of decree of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints

Today, 19 December 2009, the Holy Father, Benedict XVI has received in a private audience His Excellency Monsignor Angelo Amato SDB, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. In the course of the audience the Holy Father has authorised the Congregation to promulgate the decrees regarding . . . a miracle, attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Mary of the Cross MacKillop (Mary Helen), foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart; born the 15 January 1842 in Fitzroy (Australia) and died the 8 August 1909 in Sydney (Australia)

The promulgation of this decree opens the way for Blessed Mary MacKillop to be canononised as Australia's first saint sometime in 2010.
