ABOUT THE AGENCY
Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) is the official Archdiocesan agency supporting and promoting youth ministry in the Archdiocese of Perth. Our aim is to assist young adults to build a deep and lasting relationship with Jesus and to help them find their place in the Church and the world.  

CYM's mission is to walk with young people on their faith journey and inspire them to build communities that are vibrant places for young people to encounter Christ, engage with the Church and be a witness to their faith in their everyday life.  

CYM provides a resource centre, advice to parishes, and leadership training programs, and distributes information on youth events.


WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO
The Media Officer will be responsible for managing communications for the office, including but not limited to e-newsletters, website, graphic design, video production, print materials and social media communications for young people in the Archdiocese of Perth. This position encompasses a variety of tasks that relate to supporting parish youth and young adult groups, assisting in parish and diocesan youth events, and liaising with clergy, schools, other agencies, and movements.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Project Tasks: use appropriate multimedia to assist in the evangelisation of the Catholic faith to young people in the Archdiocese of Perth. This includes management of the branding, promotion, and communication aspects of events, website maintenance, creating content for social media and e-newsletters, and creating presentations for print and digital delivery
  • Liaise with various stakeholders including clergy, youth leaders, youth and young adult groups, parishes, schools, church agencies, and movements to support them in their youth programs
  • Assist with the running, coordination and presentations at large meetings and events
  • Assist with direction of volunteers working in the office and at events

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Tertiary qualification in Media, Graphic or Digital Design

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • In-depth understanding of the Catholic Faith and Church practices
  • Minimum one year experience in a similar position
  • Experience working with young people (12-30)
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • bility to work under pressure; must initiate, be creative, and anticipate solutions to problems when working with varied personalities and cultures
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team with key stakeholders
  • A flair for engaging Graphic Design, Copy Writing, Photography and Video Production
  • Demonstrated experience using a range of media software and platforms
  • Valid Western Australian Driver’s Licence and the ability to travel as required

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with and leading a team of volunteers

This role will require you to work some weeknights and weekends when our youth are most active. On these occasions time off in lieu (TOIL) will be granted.

If successful in securing the position, the applicant must provide a valid National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, WA Driver’s Licence and proof of COVID-19 Vaccination (triple dose).
