Perth’s St Mary’s Cathedral will join in the battle against COVID-19 as host of a vaccination clinic over two weekends.
Perth’s St Mary’s Cathedral will join in the battle against COVID-19 as host of a vaccination clinic over two weekends.
The vaccination clinic will be hosted in the parish centre on Saturday 18 December, from noon to 6pm and on Sunday 19 December, from 9am to 2pm, and then again on Saturday, 8 January, from noon to 6pm and on Sunday 9 January from 9am to 2pm.
Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB said that with COVID-19 still posing a significant risk to the WA community, supporting the implementation of the vaccine is important.
“The COVID-19 vaccines prevent people from becoming seriously ill and will help to protect the WA community,” Archbishop Costelloe said.
“The more people that get vaccinated, the more we’re protecting our families, our friends and our communities,” he said.
Both the first and second doses of the vaccine will be available on the two weekends, as well as booster shots for those who are eligible. Participants are required to wait for 15 minutes after receiving the vaccine, and are reminded that the vaccine is free.
Members of the homeless community who come to the Cathedral for assistance will also be encouraged to receive the vaccine.
Archbishop Costelloe continued by saying it is imperative we all do what we can to protect our lifestyle, particularly as we head into the holiday season, and the imminent reopening of the WA border.
“This is a great opportunity for the Catholic community to get vaccinated and help us get to the 90 per cent mark,” Archbishop Costelloe said.
Archbishop Costelloe also extended the invitation to get vaccinated to the Catholic culturally and linguistically diverse community.
“I invite those Catholics of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to realise the need for sustained protection against the severe forms of COVID-19.

Getting your COVID-19 vaccine is easy and accessible for all Western Australians aged 12 years and over.
The vaccine is free and available at GPs, GP Respiratory Clinics, Pharmacies, Aboriginal Medical Services and WA Health run Vaccination Clinics.
