Pastoral Assistant (Aboriginal Catholic Ministry)

Permanent, Full Time

The Aboriginal Catholic Ministry (ACM) is an agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth which promotes the spiritual, cultural and social development of people of Aboriginal descent. The ACM is seeking a Pastoral Assistant to provide pastoral care and support to the Aboriginal Community and to assist in ACM activities and ministry. Duties include hospital, hostel and home visitation, planning and facilitating community events, providing funeral support, and supporting at regular Aboriginal Community Masses celebrated every Sunday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8 Burnett Street, Embleton at 11am.

The applicant must have a strong awareness of Aboriginal culture, with knowledge and understanding of the effects of isolation, illness, death, and being “off country” for Aboriginal people. They must have thorough knowledge of local services and facilities available for Aboriginal people, and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of human rights issues that impact the lives of Aboriginal people. A friendly, helpful and courteous manner, strong communication skills, and excellent time management skills are essential for the role. General office skills including basic computer skills will be required. The successful applicant must hold a Clinical Pastoral Education qualification or equivalent (or be willing to complete the study for the qualification). A valid National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, WA Driver’s Licence (LR Class licence desirable), and proof of COVID-19 vaccinations (triple dose) or valid medical exemption, required.
