Organisation Details

The JEDO Mission is to serve God for justice, peace and ecology by defending individual human dignity, promoting solidarity, and fostering the common good; by working to cultivate personal and social responsibility, to stand with the marginalised and vulnerable, and to actively safeguard the integrity of all of creation through care for our common home. The JEDO Vision is for a peaceful and just world that remembers that we belong to each other as global citizens who willingly and co-operatively serve/work for the benefit of all humankind and creation - now and for future generations, with people of faith and good will.

At a national level, JEDO is guided and supported on this shared journey of prayerful discernment and social justice action through the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC), the Office for Justice, Ecology and Peace (OJEP), Caritas Australia (Development) and its program, Catholic Earthcare (Ecology). At a state and local level, our work purpose is inclusive of (but not restricted to): linking with parishioners within the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth, and with many Catholic agencies; collaborating with Ecumenical/Christian and inter-faith agencies, as well as civic and professional groups concerned with the broad themes of justice, peace and ecology.

Our JEDO Values, beliefs and traditions are in accordance with the Word and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and thought; with the JEDO call to action being to ‘read the signs of the times’ and to think globally but act locally. We also aim to work collaboratively and co-operatively; with compassion, integrity, mercy and respect; to be discerning through inclusive practices that value diversity and are justice-focused; to work as enablers and facilitators to build the capacity of others working for the common good in relation to social justice issues and peace promotion activities.
