Social Justice

The Church’s teachings on social justice are founded on the Gospel and have developed strongly over the last 140 years to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world and to respond to a variety of misinformed and in some cases noxious theories of politics and government. Agencies such as Catholic Mission and Caritas Australia promote social justice through education and through well-organised and on-going responses to the cries of those in need around the world.

Caritas Australia

Caritas Australia helps people help themselves - regardless of ethnicity, religion or political beliefs. We work through the principles and practice of community development, supporting people to help themselves out of poverty, hunger and injustice. Caritas Australia supports long-term development programs in impoverished communities in Africa, Asia, East Timor, Latin America, Indigenous Australia and the Pacific - helping oppressed people to rediscover their dignity by taking greater control over their lives and overcoming poverty. Our annual appeal Project Compassion is held during Lent.

Official pontifical mission aid agency raising funds for the universal missionary work of the Church in every developing country worldwide, and provides faith education and formation in missiology and evangelisation for Catholic parishes, schools and organisations in Australia.
